Hello there!
Welcome to my Blog.
I am hoping to use this to share with you some of my music experiences, additions to my collection, memories of going to gigs, playing in bands and working in record shops.
A bit about myself: I am a Stockport bloke who now lives in the East Midlands. I am a teaching assistant and very happily married to a lovely lady.
I am a Doctor Who fan and a film buff. Mainly Sci-Fi & Horror.
In recent years I have started writing ( under my real name, of course!). I have written articles for the 'We Are Cult' website, The Celestial Toyroom ( the official magazine of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society), Lemmy: Memories of a Rock & Roll Legend ( edited by Ian Carroll) and 'You And Who Else' (Edited by J.R. Southall). I have some more projects but I am sworn to secrecy. I will tell you that I've just had my first piece of fiction accepted. Which is nice.
Still here? Cool. Also I run The Geeky Sci Fi Group on Facebook, which sometimes assists the Starburst Magazine TV Zone Plus Podcast with polls and other fun stuff.
I have always been in love with music. I love Classic Rock, Heavy Rock, Psychedelia, Glam Rock, Punk/New Wave and 80s pop.
Like most kids born in the 70s, I started buying records and tapes and then switched to Compact Discs when they became 'the thing' in the late 80's. In recent years I have got back into vinyl in a big way and it has brought a lot of fun back to collecting.
My Top Ten Artists of All Time are as follows:-
1. Queen - In my mind, the greatest band that ever walked the Earth.
2. The Beatles ( I was brought up on them and I do Beatle Week in Liverpool every year)
3. Def Leppard- ( a choice that some may ridicule but I loved them since I first heard them as a schoolboy and they have remained a consistently great band).
4. Led Zeppelin - (Discovered these in the last year of secondary school and they just blew my mind, man).
5. David Bowie - ( Another consistently great artist throughout the years)
6. Pink Floyd - ( I worked in a shoe shop in Stockport when I left college and irritated the staff by playing Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon through the shop's speakers, non-stop for a fortnight, until they banned it).
7.The Rolling Stones - ( Legends and the best live music experience I've ever had outside of anything related to Queen).
8. Guns N'Roses - ( In particular, Slash but a great band and saw them live twice during their prime).
9. T.Rex/Marc Bolan - ( Kind of inherited this obsession from my Dad, but I ended up being more into them than he was).
10. I can't do just ten! Should I choose The Who, Thunder, Roxy Music, The Damned, Jimi Hendrix, The Quireboys, Blondie, The Specials, Aerosmith, AC/DC, KISS,U2, The Kinks, Metallica,The Small Faces, The Human League, Kraftwerk, The Velvet Underground?.... so many favourites...
If you've read this far, thank you very much and I hope to continue to write more nonsense for you.
